New Year’s Eve, also known as Capodanno, is a time where you can celebrate with friends, family, yourself or anyone who makes you feel happiest. The time is yours, and what a better way than to surround yourself with good friends, great wine and an amazing experience at Pretty Boy Italian Steakhouse right around the corner from Melbourne Central.

Before the New Year celebrations can begin, one must surround yourself with good friends or family to celebrate cenone (dinner). Cenone is often celebrated either at home, in restaurants or out on the streets. Many areas of Italy have different traditions that uniquely highlights the traditions that pre-date even the Christian calendar to farewell the old year and bring in the New Year. These can include bonfires, effigy burning, markets and throwing out old things to symbolize the readiness to accept the New Year.

Among popular Capodanno practices across all of Italy is the wearing of red undergarments to bring love and fertility drinking a toast of sparkling wine and lighting firecrackers at the stroke of midnight; as well as eating Cotechino. Cotechino is a savoury, fatty pork sausage symbolizing fortune, abundance and good luck and eaten alongside lentils, which has been a tradition since the Roman times from their coin-like shape. As they say at Capodanno – whatever happens at capodanno, will continue to happen throughout the year. It is always best to leave behind any negative memories or unpleasant time and introduce the New Year with a bang.

Italy has regional celebrations, which differ from one to another, but all have their own unique spark and flair. Each of these welcome the feast of the epiphany marking the end of the holiday season. In Rome, there is a popular free event, which attracts thousands of locals and tourists alike, regardless of the winter. The revelers line the streets to enjoy the lighting celebrations and free comedy and musical performances in the streets, and is enjoyed by young and old.

Let Pretty Boy and his crew help you ring in Capodanno with friends, family or whoever you’re feeling like spending time with. Bring on the red undergarments, lentils and some amazing Cotechino, and ring in the New Year in style. Book now!
